Behind the Scenes at Houston World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest

We aren’t just BBQ cooks and podcasters, we’re barbecue enthusiasts!  A few short weeks ago my friends and I were beyond thrilled when we got the opportunity to attend the prestigious Houston World's Championship Bar-B-Que Competition. Held annually at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo grounds, this event is like the Mecca for all things BBQ. The aroma of smoked meat filled the air as soon as we arrived, and we knew we were in for an unforgettable experience.

Upon entering the grounds, we were greeted by a lively atmosphere buzzing with excitement. Smoke billowed from countless barbecue pits, and the smell of sizzling meat accompanied the laughter and chatter of attendees, not to mention great music playing everywhere. It was a feast for the senses, and we couldn't wait to dive in.

One of the highlights of our visit was the opportunity to interview some of the top pitmasters in the industry. We were fortunate enough to talk with Bill Purvis, Aaron Lesley, Jeremy Pace, Mark Lambert, John Mercer, Matt Walton, and Doug Scheiding, all of whom graciously shared their insights and experiences with us.

Bill Purvis, a seasoned veteran and World Champion in the world of barbecue, hosted us on Champions Row. We talked with Bill, and then with Aaron Lesley there. We then wandered through the competition grounds, sampling mouthwatering dishes from various teams and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, it became clear to us why barbecue holds such a special place in the hearts of so many. It's not just about the food; it's about the passion, the camaraderie, and the shared love for a time-honored tradition. During our wandering (and beer drinking) we met up with many more members of our BBQ family.

Our visit to the Houston World's Championship Bar-B-Que Competition was an unforgettable experience that left us inspired and hungry for more. From the mouthwatering flavors to the incredible people we met along the way, it was a celebration of everything we love about barbecue. As we left the event, stomachs full and hearts happy, we knew that we would be back. If you haven’t experienced the Houston World's Championship, add it to your bucket list! And check out our latest podcast episode on youtube for all the behind the scenes action and conversations.

Thanks guyz. It was great to have y'all in the Wild Game Crew Tent and love being a part of your show. Although I am not sure that is water in that water bottle as that is not allowed in our tent HAHA. Appreciate y'all having me on the show but don't have me after Kevin Bledso ever again....he is an impossible dude to follow. So funny, Love him 😎
